Father’s Day Gift Guide 2020

What's Dad's favourite platform?

Father’s Day is approaching. Kids everywhere are scrambling through their piggy banks, reaching far into the souls of their sneakers and pillaging through the crusty crevices of each couch cushion for hidden teasure… or any coin they can muster. But one question remains, will you buy Dad his dream gift this Father’s Day? or is it another trip to Best & Less for the ol’ Buy 2 get 1 Free Special on Monday to Friday Undies? Well, we’re here to make sure you put a big smile on Dad’s face this year with suggestions, that not only may have Dear old Dad grinning, but a sneaky double-down on a small gift for yourself. Just… don’t tell Mum that.

PlayStation

Keep it simple...

Unsure what to grab Dad?

Keeping is simple and topping up his wallet for the PlayStation Store will be just fine. Grabbing a $30 or $50 PSN Voucher will allow Dad to renew his PlayStation Plus membership, or purchase a title to his liking.

What’s great is the PlayStation Store always has some decent deals going every few weeks. It’s a win-win.

He'll love this...

The sequel to the critically acclaimed multi-award winning action-adventure/horror; The Last of Us Part II see’s the return of an adolescent Ellie, looking for retribution against former Firefly members.

This instant classic follows the events of the 2013 smash hit The Last of Us, Where Joel and Ellie fight for survival against hoards of infected “runners”, that have mutated from human to zombie in the midst of a global pandemic.

If Dad has yet to play its prequel, I would highly suggest picking that up first. But if he’s a fan and has yet to play this incredible title, then it’s a great Father’s Day gift.

Work on his swing...

It’s time to tee off.

No, not causing Dad to blow a gasket on Father’s Day, I’m talking about his favourite pass time that he probably misses in quarantine, golf.

The fine folk at 2K have finally entered the Pro-Golf Am and have hit a hole-in-one with this spectacular golfing Sim.

PGA Tour 2K21 offers a range of variety, including an astounding range of well renowned golf courses, a broad selection in customisation, and will no doubt assist Dad with his golf swing… hopefully getting him out of the bunker.

A next generation experience...

While November may be a while away, does not mean you can’t surprise Dad with a FREE gift, right?

While you may pick up one of the items suggest in our guide, you may also register Dad’s interest in an early pre-order for the PlayStation 5.

A neat way to show Dad how much you love him, would be to pick up an EB Games or JB HI-FI Gift Card with an amount of your choosing, then registering your interest for the next gen unit, and gifting Dad the voucher on Father’s Day, letting him know of the gesture. Neat, huh?

XBOX

Keep it simple...

Unsure what to grab Dad?

Keeping is simple and topping up his wallet for XBOX Live will be just fine. Grabbing a $30 or $50 XBOX Gift Card will allow Dad to renew his Games Pass, extend his Gold Membership or purchase a title to his liking.

XBOX Live also offers an amazing variety of backwards compatible classics at great prices, so Dad can relive the classics.

Avengers Assemble...

Dad love his superhero movies? Of course he does. Who doesn’t love the greatest gathering of Earth’s mightiest?

Marvel’s Avengers: The Game see’s founding members Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, and Hulk unveil the group’s San Francisco Headquarters. Their celebration is cut short when the Taskmaster leads an attack on the Golden Gate Bridge, with the city under attack.

Once again, it’s time for the Avengers to Assemble and take-down earth’s greatest threat.

Relive his glory days...

Was Dad a skater-boi? Did he love his punk rock, X-Games, Red Bull and Tony Hawk?

Well, his favourite skater is making a return, and in fine fashion. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 Remastered is receiving the royal treatment from Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy development Studio, Vicarious Visions.

Activision promises to bring THPS back to prominence, with upgraded visuals, classic gameplay, and its memorable soundtrack curated by the The Birdman himself, Tony Hawk.

So pop an Ollie, do a kickflip, and get grinding!

Get Dad Ready...

While November may be a while away, does not mean you can’t surprise Dad with a FREE gift, right?

While you may pick up one of the items suggest in our guide, you may also register Dad’s interest in an early pre-order for the XBOX Series X.

A neat way to show Dad how much you love him, would be to pick up an EB Games or JB HI-FI Gift Card with an amount of your choosing, then registering your interest for the next gen unit, and gifting Dad the voucher on Father’s Day, letting him know of the gesture. Neat, huh?

Nintendo

Keep it simple...

Dad running out of memory on his Switch? Perfect!

Time to help Dad out with an upgrade to his Switch Storage. A simple yet effective gift is a Micro SD Card, with enough SPEED (100MB/s Min) and Memory.

I personally Recommend going for 128GB Minimum, as it will quadruple his existing onboard storage, allowing Dad to fit more digital title’s and his physical library’s installations.

Fun for the whole family...

Want to entertain the entire family?

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for Nintendo Switch is the ultimate Family title, and will keep Dad entertained for hours. Choosing to play solo, couch co-op, jumping online or battle mode, Mario Kart continues the tradition of putting smiles on faces around the globe.

Compatible with Joy Cons, and Pro Controllers for up to four players, this is a no brainer if you’re desperately searching for anything that Dad may not already have in his collection.

Keep him on his toes...

Dad love a good workout? Well this will certainly get him warmed up.

Ring Fit Adventure promises to work up a sweat, and get Dad’s blood pumping. With over 100 exercises, tasks, and routines to choose from, there’s no shortage in variety, and will certainly get Dad off the couch, and back in his gym gear.

Alongside standard workout routines, is the title’s campaign where you portray a male or female protagonist in an RPG style action-adventure. You meet with a sentient Ring, that warns you of a formidable foe in Dragaux, the Body Building Dragon. It is up to you and your angelic apparatus to take down this evil force that threatens to takeover the world.

A Folding feat for Father's Day...

Get Dad back into his Role-Playing title’s with this neatly tucked and entwined tale.

Paper Mario: The Origami King see’s our cardboard cutout cosmos in crisis, and who else but our favourite red capped plumber and his bumbling brother stumble right into an unintended adventure to once again save Peach, and the entire Mushroom Kingdom from being folded.

And by folded, I literally mean folded into Origami. Yes, as the title implies the Origami King Olly, has taken members of the royal courtship into custody, and have turned them into his own paper-thin posers.

It’s now up to Mario to unfold this mystery, guided by the King’s own sibling Olivia.

PC

Upgrade Dad's setup...

Dad still rockin’ that old HP Wireless keyboard and mouse combo?

Time to add some bling to his gaming setup with this awesome Mechanical Keyboard from SteelSeries.  The SteelSeries APEX 7 TKL Mehcanical Gaming Keyboard will curb Dad’s playstyle and be sure to come out ontop in every round of Siege.

His gaming buddies will love you for it.

Simple yet effective...

In addition to his sweet keyboard…

Be sure to grab him a flashy mouse with some sweet RGB to suit. The SteelSeries Rival 3 Gaming Mouse will give Dad elevated preciseness, and stop relying on auto-aim.

The Rival 3 glides quite smoothly across a Qck Mouse Pad, like a match made in heaven. A mouse and its pad working in perfect harmony.

Out of this world...

Hey Dad, are ya winning? No?

Well maybe you would if you could hear all oncoming enemies covertly sneaking up from behind you. Here’s your solution, the SteelSeries Arctis 3 provides excellent sound, and can be used as your everyday driver.

While SteelSeries provides greater tiers in their Arctis range, this will surely satisfy Dad’s needs.

He can use it for PC, Music, and all Gaming consoles.

Beyond the Horizon...

Dad looking for something a little different? Needing a sense of adventure?

Horizon Zero Dawn, the multi-award winning 2017 PlayStation 4 epic is now available on PC. Roam a post-cataclysmic Earth, set in the 31st century where humanity has slightly devolved, with only remains of technological advancement existing within creatures known as “machines” roaming its desolate plains.

Your protagonist Aloy, an abandoned orphan is outcased by her tribe and handed to her new guardian Rost, in hopes of training the young girl, into a warrior in hopes of being accepted again.
