So, here it is; DashGamer’s Madman Christmas Gift Guide 2020. PLUS ULTRA!

Hottest Titles

Summer Rain...

Ready for Rain?

Weathering With You (Tenki no ko) will certainly leave you in tears from this emotional tale about sacrifice for the sanctity of humanity. Makoto Shinkai delivers in this epic tale that takes place within the same universe as the critically acclaimed 2016 smash hit, Your Name (Kimi no Na wa).

Personally, one of my favourites this year, incredible narrative, gorgeous animation and a cast of relatable characters that will no doubt tug on those heart strings.

Beach Weather...

It’s summer time here in Australia…

and there’s no better time to head to the beach. With 2020 being the year of complete hibernation, some are not as fortunate as the many out there that may have the luxury of heading out, and riding the waves this season.

The Aptly titled Ride Your Wave will take you to the beach this Christmas, with a touching tale of two youngsters that fall in love over one’s passion of surfing. Another tear jerker, this title is a story of connection, love and heartbreak. Be ready with them tissues.

Santa's Slayer...

Looking for some action this Christmas?

Demon Slayer has dominated the Anime scene this year, with an exceptional story of triumph over evil. The world is not the same and samurai’s must survive the devious hordes of demons that threaten life as we know it.

Again, one of my personal recommendations from a pool of plentiful anime this year. Demon Slayer rises above the rest and shows quality within its incredible narrative and animation.

Wonderful Time...

Anime fans know about Your Name…

Makoto Shinkai’s tour de force has taken the world by storm. Not only has it broken box office records, it has led a renaissance for the medium and revitalised the Japanese Animation Industry.

A time twisting tale of two high school students who experience their own ‘Freaky Friday’ of sorts, where body-swapping teens go through the notions of witnessing a cataclysmic event unfolding.

Crash the Party...

It’s going to be a very Merry Cyberpunk Christmas this year…

If you’re picking up CDPROJEKTRED’s Cyberpunk 2077 next week, then there’s no better gift to accompany the action-adventure than Promare, the Hiroyuki Imaishi smash hit of 2019. A unique flavour of Anime, this narrative tells the story of supernatural mutants that harness the power of Fire Manipulation.

A duo of budding firefighters are now set up to the task of Saving the city of Promepolis. This epic feature heightens all senses with a vibrant overlay, and sleek animation.

Rise Above...

The future is now…

My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising is the long running Japanese Anime’s latest feature film adaptation that bridges events that unfold between Season 3 & 4, with Deku and Bakugo taking center stage.

The Duo must protect a pair meddling kids, one which harbours a powerul quirk that the mysterious antagonist who goes by ‘Nine’ tries to acquire with his power stealing quirk.

Latest & Greatest...

The New Class…

We’re entering an entirely new phase within the world of My Hero, as Deku begins to take the lead. The daring and death defying heroics of Class-A pushes the envelope and takes the adventure to new heights within the latest season of this epic television series.

For those who may not be caught up, I highly advise checking our prior seasons before diving into Season 4, in saying that… our next recommendation is perfect.

Where it all began...

Ambitions…

It’s quite the overwhelming term, or even imposing scenario to place one in. Especially the disadvantaged. While a entire class of quirked heroes are ready to take on the world, our unlikely protagonist in Izuku Midoriya heads into the series without a hope of becoming a hero.

That is until one fateful evening the youngster is in a head on collision with fate that takes him to his limits, but is protected by the town’s saviour and notorious Superhero, All Might. There’s no doubt that My Hero Academia has dominated the Anime scene, so this is a sure-fire recommendation for anyone looking to jump into this epic action series.

Plus ULTRA...

Huge fan of My Hero?

This is the perfect mantle piece to display your adoration for the series, and its headlining hero. The My Hero Academia – Grandista: All Might Statue comes with an updated paint application to accentuate All Might’s brickhouse exterior, and trademark smile.

Standing at 11 inches, this sculpture will tower above your entire collection, flexing the golden maned hero’s incredible physique.

Boxset Battle

A Classic Christmas...

The Entire Hayao Miyazaki Collection in one boxset…

That should speak for itself. The Studio Ghibli legend has bought many animated classics to life. Within this collection you will find;

  • Spirited Away (2001)
  • Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro (1979)
  • My Neighbour Totoro (1988)
  • Kiki’s Delivery Service (1989)
  • Princess Mononoke (1997)

And many more. A 32 Page booklet with bonus postcards and a Bonus disc includes the early works of Miyazaki. An essential collector’s piece.

A Kakarot Krampus...

A Super Christmas is up for grabs…

The DragonBall franchise saw an epic return to form in 2019, with DragonBall super dominating the action category. Completely retconning the polarising DragonBall GT saga, Super takes us back to the end of DragonBall Z and rewrites the history of our favourite Saiyan’s living on earth, and fighting for the planet’s survival.

Certainly one my personal favourites from last year.

Ghost of Christmas in the Shell...

An enigmatic cult classic…

Ghost in the Shell has held acclaim for years now, and deservedly so. The smash hit television series based on the Masamune Shirow Manga allowed viewers to take a look into a cognitive representation of a technologically advanced metropolis that has exploited a new wave of crime. This takes our lead protagonist Major Motoko Kusanagi and her force on the ride of her life.

Shinkai's Gifts...

I can gush for hours on Shinkai’s work…

But I’d rather recommend this excellent boxset of his entire workings that will take you on a visual trip through the creative mind of the masterful Makoto Shinkai. This set includes;

  • VOICES OF A DISTANT STAR (Presented in standard definition)
  • THE PLACE PROMISED IN OUR EARLY DAYS
  • 5 CENTIMETRES PER SECOND
  • CHILDREN WHO CHASE LOST VOICES
  • THE GARDEN OF WORDS
    YOUR NAME
  • WEATHERING WITH YOU

TV Series

Go Psycho...

Turn it to 100%…

Mob, along with his Master Reagan return complete with the zany cast of Season one. Mob Pyscho 100 follows the story of Shigeo Kageyama, a powerful Esper who carries the burden of immense psychic abilities.

The teen just wants to be an ordinary student that goes about his daily life, work his part time job, has a girlfriend, and goes home. Unfortunately, due to his supernatural abilty, Mob leads a life of uncertainty and responsibility. This comedy-drama is one of my personal favourites, and I highly recommend it.

Set it a blaze...

Triumph and Heartbreak…

Fire Force see’s an ambitious Pyrokinetic by the name of Shinra Kusakabe, who carries the memory of his mother’s untimely death. Nicknamed “The Devil’s Footprint” after being accused of murdering his own mother, the scars of his childhood lead Shinra to join Special Fire Force Company 8, and save Tokyo from the combustible elements of the “Infernals”.

No doubt, this was one of the most intense action series of the last year and had me gripped from beginning to end. May have binged ’til 5AM.

Future's Past...

Good Morning World…

Ever been petrified? No I mean literally petrified, as in turned into stone? Well the unlikely scenario of that happening has occurred within this universe. With humanity being preserved over 3,700 years after a mysterious flash of light turned the race into stone, an 18 Year old Science student, Senky Ishigami, is the only human to de-petrify, bringing the teen back to life after surviving centuries of a sedentary state.

Now it’s up to the genius in finding a way to restore the human race, and help defend them against any threats that may loom.

Sword Art Solace...

Wonderland, huh?

Well, I never would have thought we would see an adaptation be turned on its head, and be retold in an astoshingly original take. Alicization hearkens back to Sword Art’s original canon, and revisits series’ fundamental favourites. Kirito and Asuna make their return, albeit briefly, as Kirito is once again stuck in a virtual world, and must save his friends after his crew had accidentally stumbled upon the “Dark Territory”.

It’s so good to see the series return to form. One of my favourite Anime’s of all time.
